Learners will be taught how to create a Still Life with two apples You will learn how to use vine charcoal and charcoal. You will learn how to create a value scale and the basic understanding of how light is used to bring out the form of a flat shape. Using that knowledge, you will draw the shapes of two apples on a table and draw in the values to give the apples the illusion of form. I will be demonstrating how to create a value scale and different drawing techniques. Students will be creating one as well. I will also be demonstrating step by step how to create the apple still life. I will be asking the learners questions in-between each concept that is taught so that I am sure that the students understand what is being taught. Students can interrupt at any time to ask me questions. No prior knowledge is needed to complete this lesson.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of how to use the medium charcoal, and how to use that medium to create the illusion of form on a 2 dimensional surface using two flat shapes.

About me :
Hi my name is Gloria Nicholson. I am a certified art teacher and have taught middle school art for 14 years. I attended Central Connecticut State University where I received my teacher certification along with a B.S. and M.S in art education. My focus in art for my Bachelors was printmaking and my focus in art for my Masters degree was oil painting.
My philosophy:
The students in my art classes should feel that they can learn in a positive environment. I know that every student learns differently, and my goal is to meet that student's learning need and to make sure that they come away from my class feeling successful.
My Classes:
I will be teaching various art classes that will focus on drawing shapes and giving them the illusion of 3D form. Students will be able to learn the different techniques of creating value and how to use the art elements to create the illusion of form on a flat surface. They will be using various media, like oil pastels, colored pencils, ebony pencils and charcoal. They will be drawing still life, landscapes, Graffiti names, drawing buildings in 2 point perspective, drawing flat shapes and objects and giving them the illusion of 3 dimensional form. They will be learning about perspective, rendering, and art history as pertaining to the art style or subject matter.
In my free time I love riding my bike, playing the piano and traveling. I’ve been to 12 different countries. But most of all I love teaching children about art!
