Class Experience

Welcome to charcoal class! This is an ongoing class that will focus step by step on numerous techniques within the charcoal medium every week, however each lesson is also a stand-alone class if you’re just looking for a quick charcoal tutorial! We will be drawing a wide range of images from spheres, still life, landscapes, animals, abstract pieces, etc.

This class is suggested for 8-13 year olds who have little to no experience with charcoal. Drawing experience is a bonus but absolutely not necessary, we all need to start somewhere. :) We will be learning about line work, shading, blending, depth, perspective, light/dark, pigment, and texture.

Each week your student will be given a new image that they will be focusing on and will be provided on the class site. (It is strongly suggested to have this image either printed off before class or pulled up on a separate screen during class.) We will talk about a new technique each week and I will show your student step by step how to approach their piece, while giving them free reign to make mistakes, ask questions, and enjoy their masterpieces!

Here are the required SUPPLIES for this class: (Links provided are of my favorite brands, but just like art, there is no one right answer and you can use whatever is available to you.)
