Class structure: Introductions, rules, schedule Introduction to new vocabulary (carnivore, prehensile, invasive species, constriction, non-venomous) Group interaction Direct instruction Question and Answer Short video and reflection Summaries- can be done verbally or written via the chat box Topics covered: constriction, venomous vs. non-venomous, native homeland, what happens when they are introduced to an area that is not their home, how do invasive species harm the environment, when did Burmese pythons first get introduced to Florida Everglades, how many eggs can female snakes lay in one year, swimming facts, what do they eat Additional activities- video with question and answers Trying to draw our own Burmese Python During class: Visuals, audio, and videos Teaching style: I enjoy getting all students involved in their learning, encouraging group conversations, and checking for understanding throughout the lesson. I use individual accommodations for each student as class goes on, based on the needs of the individual. No former knowledge about Burmese snakes is needed but snake lovers are certainly welcome to bring their facts and conversation to the classroom!
