This class is for any learner who might be interested in gaining knowledge about the sport of basketball. We will be learning basic terminology, positions, basic offense and defense, as well as adding some shooting and ball-handling tips for beginners. Learners will become familiar with the floor and learn the names of all the lines, what fouls and free throws are, and also discuss how to have good sportsmanship towards other players, coaches, and the referees. No prior knowledge is required....
By the end of the class, learners will be able to identify the five players and tell a little bit about their roles on the floor. They will know the terminology of the floor and be able to identify the key, free throw line, three-point arc, baseline, and center court. We will discuss basic team offense and defense, fouls, and free throws. Learners will have a chance to practice the proper way to hold a basketball when shooting and tips for developing a great shot.
Learners may bring a ball with them to class and may want to have a notebook/pencil to take notes.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Learners will be assessed as the class moves along by answering comprehension questions. They will be encouraged to ask questions at any time for extra help understanding the concepts we will be learning.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
