55 mins in-class hoursHomework
2-4 hours per week. Learners are strongly encouraged to practice what is covered in class in a safe and open space. Repetition is key in mastering the basketball drills and skills that will be taught in class.Assessment
Learners will be informally assessed on their progress (i.e. proper form, increasing their number of reps, ability to add extensions to drills, ability to answer questions, etc.)Class Experience
This is a one-time 55-minute class. Learners will be taught the fundamentals of basketball via live instruction and drills, in which participants will work on ball-handling, footwork/defense, rebounding, cardio/conditioning, and body weight exercises. We will stretch/warm-up at the beginning of each class. I will explain and demonstrate each drill and provide feedback and encouragement to ensure that learners are performing each drill correctly. Learners are strongly encouraged to ask me questions and/or provide feedback at any point during the session using their microphones or the chat feature. Prior basketball experience is not a requirement. All are welcome!
Learning Goals
Learners will improve their understanding of the fundamentals of basketball including ball control, executing movements without looking at the ball or the ground, dribbling the ball with one hand (emphasis placed on use of fingers to control the ball), basic dribbling moves, triple threat position, protecting the ball, pivoting, jab stepping, defensive stance/footwork, and improving cardio/conditioning.
