Class Experience

Hello! In this Intro to Ballet class, students will start by introducing themselves and making new friends inside the classroom. After introductions and fun facts have been shared, we will move into a warm up to prepare for dancing. Warm up will include a stretching sequence as well as a few games to get the dancers imagination and creativity flowing. Since we will be warming up and stretching in class together, students do not need to warm up before class. Next, students will be taught several new dance vocabulary words, and we will practice performing these steps together. Once students feel comfortable with their new dance moves, we will craft a short ballet combination to perform as a group at the end of class to show off our new skills. As important as building technique is, the main goal of this class is for students to have fun and fall in love with ballet. No previous ballet experience is needed to take this course, just curiosity and a willingness to try new things.

Learning Goals

Students will learn new dance vocabulary and technique while having fun, getting some exercise, and expressing themselves. As this is a ballet course, students will learn specifically about ballet technique, but more importantly how to care for their bodies so they can stay active throughout their whole lives. The number one goal of this class is to spread the love of dance and performing arts and encourage creativity.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Parental Guidance is always suggested for physical activity, however this is not mandatory. As a teacher, I will be making sure your student stays safe and healthy while dancing, but having a parent close by is always recommended for further assistance. There will also be a short dance performance at the end of class, and it won't be something you'll want to miss!
Supply List
Ballet shoes are required for this course, as they are an important part of keeping dancer's feet safe, especially when dancing on floors in a home. Please have students wear clothing that is comfortable, non restrictive, and easy to move in. Leotard and tights are recommended but not required. Students should have their hair pulled back away from the face so it won't get in the way while dancing (a classic ballet bun is always a good way to go). Water should be close by so the student can stay hydrated through out class, as water breaks will be given often. This course is designed to be done in the possibly restricted/small area of the home, but make sure the student has a flat, clean surface to dance on and that they will not hit anything in the surrounding area while dancing.

Teacher expertise and credentials
As a professional dancer myself, I have many years of experience and training in the world of dance. In addition to being a performer, I have training in physical therapy which ensures that I can help prevent dance related injuries in my students. I have been teaching both dance and wellness and recovery for many years now and am very excited to share this knowledge with the students of Outschool to make sure their learning experience is the best it can be.
