Introduction to ASL (American Sign Language)
Class experience
In this multi-day classes, I will be teaching basic American Sign Language (ASL) for the alphabet. Topics include fingerspelling, emotions, and colors in ASL through my instructions, fun games, interactive worksheets, and team learning. As a native sign language user, I will be teaching in ASL and there will be an interpreter voicing for me but will not be on the screen. The class will be seeing me sign while hearing the interpreter's voice. Learners will interact with the whole class in ASL...
Learners will be introduced to the language of ASL and get to practice this skills they need to understand ASL, as well as being able to communicate and stay interactive in the session with a Deaf teacher. For three weeks, multi-day class goals will include the students being able to sign without using their voice throughout the entire class session, use facial expressions, use their body language expressions, and retain sign language in each class.
Two to three pdf papers will be provided. Glue sticky Color pencil or crayon
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
I will be using a third-party service. However, the learners do not need to do anything and this does not require any materials. Slides will be used from Canva or Google, so the learners can have clear visuals through my shared screen via zoom. All the images and words will be used appropriately in the classroom pertaining to my ASL lessons, which are completely safe and secure created by the teacher, Ms. Contreras. BookFlix is age appropriate for pre-kindergarten to kindergarten learners that include books to read. I, the educator, will share my screen to show the books and sign to learners in the classroom. There are several books that I will present in class such as "How do Dinosaurs Learn to Read" by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague. There is no need for parents and family to create an account. Only I can access the BookFlix and also it will only use share screen. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. No videos will be added. Only images on the slides.
