Class Experience

This class is an introduction to Algebraic Functions. It is designed for students who are starting 7th, 8th, or 9th grade have not yet taken Algebra (Pre-Algebra would be helpful but not required). During this 50 minute class we will talk about what a function is, how to make an input-output table, write an equation based off the table, graph the function, and identify the Domain and Range of the function. If time allows we will also talk about Function Notation and how to write an equation using Function Notation.
This class will be a "I do", "We do", "You do" type structure. Students will listen and watch an example being done, then we will do an example together, finally they will do a problem on their own. Students will then show their work and share their answer with the other students. Students will have an opportunity to ask questions.

Learning Goals

By the end of class students will have a better understanding of how to fill out an input/output table and how to find the Domain and Range.

I have an Indiana Teaching Certificate and am licensed to teach grades 5-12. I have been teaching mathematics for the past 19 years. For 12 years I taught at the High School Level teaching Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra II. For the past 7 years I have been teaching at the Middle School Level teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Pre-Algebra as well as 7th and 8th grade Algebra.
During my free time I enjoy running and spending time outdoors with my husband of 23 years. We have two dogs, a 15 year old beagle named Echo and a 8 year old St. Bernard named Ursa.

Over the past 19 years I have learned many tips and tricks to help teach and explain math. I enjoy working one-on-one with students to help show them that math is not hard. My strengths are Pre-Algebra and Algebra. I am excited to meet you and can't wait to see you in class.
