Beginner Level
In this class, we will cover the basics of addition, strategies to use, vocabulary, and how to write and read a number sentence. Strategies used: - Counting on - Touch and count The class is structured for you to work at your own pace. The students will be able to watch the prerecorded lesson, pause, go back, and take their time to learn each new skill being taught. Each week we will work on the next skill in learning addition. At the beginning of each lesson, we will start by reviewing what we learned the previous week.

Students will learn how to use the strategies count on and touch and count to assist them with counting objects to add together to find how many.

Introduction of addition
This lesson will review basic counting skills, how to write our numbers and introduce addition and equal signs. Students will learn the vocabulary and practice using our new signs to solve addition problems within 5.
Lesson 2:
Addition with objects
In this lesson, we will use pictures of animals, food, and shapes to help us add within 5 and 10! Students will learn to write the number of objects counted under those pictures and write the total number to the side. This lesson will also students to associate the number of pictures above with the numeral below, allowing the students to gain knowledge about using symbols in number sentences.
Lesson 3:
Using the + symbol
In this lesson, students will use pictures of animals, food, and shapes to help us add within 5 and 10 using the addition symbol. Students will learn how to write out number sentences and apply the addition symbol to the number sentence.
Lesson 4:
Use the = symbol
In this lesson, students will use pictures of animals, food, and shapes to help us add within 5 and 10 using the addition and equal symbol. Students will learn how to write out number sentences and apply the addition and equal symbol to the number sentence.

Basic counting and number recognition
Supply List
Students will need pencilse, paper, and objects to assist in counting (cereal, toys, pennies, etc).

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

I have been a public school teacher for 5 years. I have my masters in Special Education and my bachelor's in Early Childhood Education. I have been teaching math for 3 years and have had several opportunities to teach math in several different ways to assist learners at all levels.
