Class Experience

Welcome! I'm glad you're interested in diving into 3D modeling and animation. It's a growing and highly employable industry that just so happens to be really fun too. This course is designed for absolute beginners who want to take a deep dive into everything that Blender has to offer! Here's what you can expect:

Who can take this course?

This course is designed for absolute beginners who are eager to dive into the world of 3D animation. Whether you've never opened Blender before or have minimal experience, this class will guide you through the fundamentals of modeling, texturing, sculpting, and procedural textures. You'll also learn the basics of animation, including character animation, in a supportive and beginner-friendly environment. No prior knowledge is required—just bring your creativity and a willingness to learn!

What do we actually do during class?

This is not a lecture or theory based class. We won't just talk about 3D modeling and animation, we're actually going to do it! From day one we will open up Blender and get to work. I'll be there alongside you, guiding you with step by step instructions. You'll be able to see my screen, keypresses, and highly visible mouse movements to make sure you don't miss a thing. Each class is automatically recorded too - so you'll always be able to go back and double check a technique or take notes when it's most convenient for you.
Learning Goals
Students will be introduced to, or continue to develop their skills in, Blender 3D modeling and animation.
Students will explore low-poly and hard surface modeling, basic lighting, materials, and rendering, as well as animation.

Parental Guidance
How Blender is used in this course: This course uses Blender, a free and open source program for creating 3D models and animation. No account is needed. I will share my Blender program window though Zoom screen share during the live class. I may sometimes ask permission for learners to share their Blender program window through Zoom to troubleshoot issues as a last resort. You can find the Blender system requirements here: https://www.blender.org/download/requirements/ Please note that Blender does not run on Chromebooks. How Loom is used in this course: I will send links to private Loom video recordings when appropriate. This may be for longer responses to questions or feedback.

Hello! I'm Joey and I'm excited to meet you. As a parent, I understand how vital early childhood education is. The fact that you are here, searching for the best instructor for your learners, means that you know how important it is too. I take this responsibility seriously, and work hard to provide individual attention and support to all of my students.

I've worked professionally as a software developer, as well as an adjunct college professor teaching introductory and advanced computer programming courses. My passions and class topics are wide ranging, from tabletop role-playing games to 3D modeling, astronomy, and art! To each of my classes I bring the same philosophy: that we truly grow when we connect what we learn to what is important to us. No matter if it's academic study or a social activity, I teach with the intention of inspiring students to make those connections and get excited about learning. I can't wait to see you in class!
