Class Experience

In this class we will be learning how to build RPG characters for the game Dungeons and Dragons.
Not only will we be going over the rules for playing, but we'll also talk about what makes a character interesting. What is a character flaw? Why is it good for characters to be bad at some things?
We will first create a character together and then each person will be able to come up with their own character that they think is unique, interesting, and fun to play.
Students should take part one of this course, though it is not absolutely necessary.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello everyone!
I'm Mr. Ferguson, a high school teacher from Canada who lives in California. I've been teaching in a private school for 3 years and I'm excited to be teaching a few classes on Outschool for the summers.

The classes I teach are Book Studies in Popular Literature, Collaborative Storytelling: An Introduction to Dungeons and Dragons, and Video Games and Storytelling. The classes I teach are generally designed for a middle school to high school class. 7th-12th grade.

My professional background is in Literature, History, and Biology.

As long as people have been around, they've been telling stories. By looking at books, board games, and video games we discover so many unique ways that stories can be told and through these unique mediums we can learn new, interesting, and exciting things. This idea is what I highlight in my classes, and it's a passion for stories that I hope to communicate to my students. I grew up reading books, loving board games, and playing video games, so many of my foundational memories fondly involve these activities.
