This is a three-week class that meets two days per week. This is the fourth unit of a five-unit series that introduces students to various genres/styles of music found around the world. There will be lots of video clips of live music performances as part of the class experience. This unit covers the music of Asia including Russia and The Middle East. The primary goal is for students to learn about the many diverse ways people perform music throughout the world and understand the function of music in various cultures.
I am a certified music teacher specializing in early childhood music, instrumental music, and world music. I started teaching in 1998 and I have a master's degree in Music Education from New York University. During my undergraduate education, I also studied abroad on Semester at Sea. We traveled to Venezuela, Brazil, South Africa, Kenya, India, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan.
There is no written homework for this course.
