Welcome to Web Development 101! In this class students will uses the Glitch platform to learn how to design, create and publish web pages. Throughout this program, students will learn key concepts in the HTML language, learn to style their pages with CSS, add interesting effects with CSS animations and use links to tell stories!
WebDev Activities: Developing web pages is an exciting task, that allows students to express themselves while being extremely educational. Students will leave this class having a good understanding of how the internet works, how to be safe online, how to create and publish content online, and how to design beautiful websites.
Why? Learning HTML and CSS gives students the tools to create websites and understand how they are created, and how to safely express themselves to the world.
Weekly Breakdown: Week 1: All about me- Students will develop their own webpage. We will discuss what is safe to share with the world, and then build a webpage about their hobbies or interests. Students will have so much fun adding pictures and content to their very first page in HTML and then share it with friends and family! Eeek 2: The Worst Website in the World: In this really fun project, students will add color, backgrounds, borders and styles to their webpage, learning design principles to make their pages beautiful using CSS. We will also discuss accessibility and how to make your page easy to use! Then we will try to make it fun and hard to use by breaking all rules! Week 3: Animate the World- Students will learn how to use CSS animations to create an animated scene. They will learn how to rotate, move, change sizes, color, position, rotation and much more, using only CSS and HTML. Week 4: Choose your own Adventure Game: Now that students know how to create a web page, style it and animate it,, they will learn how to link several pages to create a multipage website! They will build a "Choose your own Adventure" web app, learning about planning, sequences and storytelling.
Prerequisites:
This is an introductory class – however, participants should have basic computer and typing skills in order to have the best class experience. Students are expected to listen and follow instructors’ instructions throughout the class in order to make it an engaging and welcoming learning experience for everyone.

Technical Requirements - Before class, please make sure that your child:
Has access to a Chromebook, PC or Mac Computer (it is not possible to use Tablets or Phones) with internet, microphone, video camera and headphones.
Has created a Glitch account and is logged in (see www.glitch.com )
Has a computer mouse (not mandatory, but strongly recommended)
