Class Experience

US Grade 4
Beginner Level
In this class, students will learn basic techniques in watercolor, and will be guided step-by-step through a painting of underwater sea life. Skills regarding how to prepare materials, and how to use tools such as brushes, paint, water and specific amounts of each one will all be covered. I will provide demonstration in increments, and then provide students with the opportunity to try each technique after observing each detailed demonstration.

Watercolor painting is totally unique from other types of painting and it involves very specific techniques that are not used in other forms of painting. Knowing when to use water, where, when and how much are all keys to a successful watercolor image. We will discuss all of these specific techniques during this class. Knowing when and where to use specific colors for the desired outcome will also be addressed in this lesson.

Because the class is just under one hour long and I want to give learners as much information as possible the class pace will move steadily. Students should arrive to the class ready to go with materials collected close at hand. However, my teaching style is also fun and lighthearted. Students will be able to ask questions and we will have open discussion along the way.

No prior experience or knowledge is needed.

Supply List
•	A set of water-color brushes (you can find these as Hobby Lobby, Walmart, or any craft-store in the U.S.). Six to eight different brushes of varying thickness and lengths is recommended.
•	9 in. x 12 in. watercolor paper. This can either be in individual sheets or a full watercolor paper studio pad.
Note: Watercolor paper is a MUST. Regular paper will not work as it cannot handle to excessive moisture in watercolor.
•	A water-color set (10 to 12 colors minimum- red, green, yellow, orange, red, violet, blue, black, white)
•	watercolor pallet
•	‘Painters tape’ (blue tape) or masking tape.
This is to tape paper to the table surface you will be working on. This will prevent the paper from curling up as a result of the excessive moistures as you work on your painting.
•	A cup of water for rinsing brushes
•	Two or three sheets of paper towels
