For this class, students don't need to have any previous coding or game design experience  RPG Maker MV is a great entry into design and programming skills. Students will follow a kid-friendly process similar to real video game designers who create the games they play at home! 

- Kids will learn to design, develop and produce games via RPG Maker’s simple to use interface and built-in visual programming language (scripts and plugins). 
Students will learn programming and logic to code character, enemy behaviors and reactions to events in their games through If/Then Statements, Switches, Variables and Loops, all done through a clickable, drag and drop interface
- Students learn to use the tools available in RPG Maker MV to create interesting terrain, towns, villages and dungeons.
- Students learn more advanced coding techniques and algorithms to enhance gameplay mechanics such as power-ups and custom graphical user interfaces. 
- Students will make use of Graphic Design techniques and programs such as GIMP/Photoshop and Powerpoint (Slides/Keynote) to enhance the visual appeal of their game. 
- Students will learn about the importance of audio and sound design and implement appropriate music and sound effects into their games. 
- Students will write short original stories for their games. 
- Students complete game design planning through a Master Design Document process, prior to starting their final projects.

I am a certified K-12 Educator, College Professor and Software Developer. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Rutgers University, two Masters Degrees from The College of New Jersey: Teaching English as a Second Language and Educational Leadership. I also have a Masters Degree in Education Technology from Northcentral University. 

I am the Founder of Wiz Arts Digital where I create mobile and desktop apps; and teach online coding classes. My most recent accomplishment was the completion of Romeo + Juliet RPG, an eLearning video game adaptation of the Shakespeare classic for Mobile (iOS, Android, iPadOS and ChromeOS) and Desktop (Windows and macOS). The game was created with RPG Maker MV, making use of some pretty advanced techniques insides and outside the engine. 

This beginner level game design and coding class introduces students to basic 2D game design fundamentals, coding vocabulary and logic. I have been teaching these classes (specifically with RPG Maker) since 2001!!! I have taught this class in every possible age group: from Kindergarten (Age 5) all the way to Adult Learners (ages 60+).
