Introduction to Veterinary Science will cover different careers and jobs in the Veterinary industry and what it is like to work with animals. Class will have topics each meeting, but will also allow for some freedoms in conversations and delving deeper into the discussions. Hi! My name is Ms. Katie Smith and I am vet tech, rescuer, and a dual certified Biology and Veterinary Science teacher! I have been working in the Veterinary industry for 25 years and have been teaching Veterinary Science for 15 years. Additionally, I hold a Masters in Humane Education and am currently earning my MBA. I have worked in emergency and private veterinary hospitals, Veterinary nutrition sales, and in education on high school and college levels. My rescue work has brought over 500 dogs and over 100 cats through my home. I also own a grooming and pet care business. I enjoy working with students to share my passion for animals!
Projects and self-driven research will be included in this course. Students will do individual projects, but may need to work with other people in the community/home to complete some projects.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Some topics discussed may include animal breeding, mistreatment, and/or end of life processes. Outside tools (Google/YouTube/Canva/Kahoot, etc) may be used mostly in screen-sharing during class.
