I like to start class with a brief Spanish greeting: ask and answer "What's your name?", teach vocabulary, then do something interactive with it. I often use songs, dance, and video clips to reinforce new learning. I also like to include simple crafts so that students have something to remember the class by. This class will focus on vowels and the alphabet in Spanish and learn to spell their name in Spanish (week 1). We will continue to practice singing the Spanish vowels and alphabet and spell his/her middle or any nickname they choose (week 2). Then, we will learn how to say/identify different animals in Spanish as well as their animal sounds in Spanish.(week 3). Week 4- colors. Primary and secondary colors about 10 of them. We will learn the Spanish version of "eye spy" to reinforce learning., Week 5- numbers 0-30. Week 6-days and months. Week 7-The date. For the calendar lessons, time will be taken to explain the differences in spelling and word order, and capitalization between the languages. Week 8 -Numbers 1-100 by tens and fives. No previous knowledge needed. My teaching style is very relaxed. Mistakes are welcome. Effort is praised. Otherwise no learning occurs!
Learning Goals
Students will learn to say and spell their names in Spanish. Students will learn to recognize the Spanish names of animals and their sounds. Students will lean to count and give date as well as talk.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hola!
I primarily teach Spanish classes and some ESL and reading classes in student's homes. I have over 16 years of experience teaching in K-11th grades in public and private schools. I have a B.A. in Spanish and M.Ed.in Teaching Additional Languages with a concentration in TESOL from UGA. I have traveled to Central and South America quite a bit as well; so I have real world experience.
I believe children learn best in a fun and relaxed environment. Mistakes are allowed. In my classes you may see song, dance, and puppetry as tools for learning.
In my spare time, you may find me reading, rollerblading, playing tennis or the piano!
I hope I have the opportunity to share my love of the Spanish language and culture with your child!
