In a small group interactive environment, we will walk through the steps on how to make a small to medium sized drawstring pouch. The same techniques can be used to make a larger bag afterwards if the student desires. The class will cover the construction of the pouch, but will not cover introduction to sewing machine use. Students should be familiar enough with the machine that they can thread and rethread it if needed (or have someone nearby who can help if that is needed) as well as how...
Students will end the class with a completed pouch and the skills to make more.
I have worked at a summer camp that teaches kids of all ages (as young as 4!) to use a sewing machine.
None, but most students will want to make more once the class is over!
Note: Since the pouches can be any size the dimensions are up to you. *A working, threaded, sewing machine *A piece of rectangular fabric. I recommend at least 10" x 6" ~Note: Your bag will be at LEAST 2 1/2" shorter than your fabric's short side and at least 1/2" thinner than half the long side. If you are planning to make your pouch for a specific purpose please take those dimensions into account. *A string/ribbon/piece of yarn that is at least twice as long as the long side of your fabric. *A pair of small scissors. Optional: *A small ruler *A few straight pins *A single safety pin
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
