Intro to React: Work on a Real Life Project With Git and Github
Learn the #1 software engineering collaboration tool. We'll use git to push code to a public website. Have your student take the first step to become an open source programmer whose contributions are recognized in the real world!
In this class, we'll learn about the concept of version control and the technology behind it. The goal of this class is to have your student discover the joy of coding by contributing to a real world project. We'll learn about: -Why we use it -Common workflows involving deploying software -How it's involved in collaboration -The computer science concept behind it. There are two sessions. Both sessions have a lecture and a lab. During the labs, we'll cover: -HTML, CSS and JS -Basic...
When I was a kid, I designed Neopets and Myspace websites and for the last three years I've been the lead instructor of a brick and mortar afterschool coding program in San Francisco. I've been private tutoring/teaching programming and math for 5 years now and believe that the best coders are also the ones who enjoy it the most. In my previous role, I learned that helping students develop a positive growth mindset were key to a successful classroom and, thankfully, coding is one of the best ways to do that. I love helping my students grow not just as engineers but as people who are empowered to do anything with the flexible skillset they gain while learning programming. Before, I was a engineering/computer science teacher at a private high school in San Francisco. As a result of my experience, I've come up with a lot of coding drills and analogies that make things simple for everybody while delivering the key concepts. That means we won't just be talking about coding but also about cooking, real estate, and more. At the end of this course, students will hopefully want to learn more and be more willing to learn the drier more theoretical parts of Computer Science. Even if they don't, they'll walk away with the basic knowledge of how to work through things, take things apart, and put things together on the web! Working in Silicon Valley, I see how accessible technology is and how most classical curriculum make you unprepared for the real world! By the end of this class, your student should be able to make projects of their own and hopefully even be on the way to interning at a technology company.

Computer Science is the best platform to give kids the tools they need to start making and discovering things on their own. I love how programming allows students to become even better students by helping them learn to fail safely and...
