Intro to Ratios by Making Chocolatey Rice Crispy Treats!

This class is about teaching children an introduction to ratios using a common pastime we all enjoy, FOOD! Students will learn how to write and verbalize ratios accurately and in the correct order.

Description

Class Experience

Students will be able to
•	Write or say a sentence that describes a ratio.
•	Understand how to say words and numbers in the correct order to accurately describe the ratio. 

I have 4 years of experience teaching the award-winning Illustrative Mathematics curriculum in the public school sector. I am now interested in engaging students in learning math by merging it with my favorite pastime, COOKING! My mission is to help parents develop math as a life skill. 
Ingredients • 6 Tablespoons salted butter • 16 oz bag mini marshmallows, divided • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract • 6 cups rice krispies cereal • Pack of all chocolate m & m’s • Pack of peanut butter m & m’s Class Supplies • Laptop
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
The closing activity is an informal assessment that demonstrates the students' understanding of the lesson. Parents will be emailed the results of this assessment within 48 hrs. 
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
(The Nearpod link will be sent to students during the first 5 minutes of class. Parents/Students do not need an account to access this lesson.)
