A relaxed weekly class for beginner pianists. Learners will meet other beginner pianists their age, learn and practice beginner-friendly techniques, and show off what they practice during the week.

Class experience

Students will learn and practice fundamental musicianship skills and piano techniques with a professional pianist.
I have a Bachelor of Music degree in classical piano performance. I also have Master's degrees in music history and music theory, and doctoral certification in piano playing and historical music theory. I have taught music from PK-12 as well as college level and my experience has helped me to create classes that help learners get excited about music. I have a passion for teaching music in a way that helps learners stay engaged and excited to keep playing.
A piano to play on is required for this class. Traditional pianos and 88-key electric keyboards are preferred, but learners may attend class with smaller keyboards if they do not have access to a full-size piano.
Access to a printer. We will occasionally have music theory activities that I will announce a week in advance.

A bench or chair at the proper height. When seated, the student's elbows should be at approximately 90 degrees when their hands are resting on the keyboard. A seat cushion is sometimes needed for smaller students.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Please make sure cameras are properly positioned before class. The camera angle should have the students' hands in view. I cannot help students develop their playing ability if I cannot see their hands. Microphones should stay unmuted and cameras on unless learners have received approval from Outschool to have their cameras off.
