If you have ever wondered what it's like to be a music journalist then this is the class for you. Using creative writing skills and guidance from an experienced writer and teacher, learners will get a taste for capturing and conveying songs while exploring an array of musical genres. Each class will examine a different piece of music and actively aim to capture that in writing. Students will then have the opportunity to share and receive feedback. Students will: - sharpen creative writing skills as they explore a unique blend of descriptive writing and reporting. - utilize imagery in writing to capture the intangible. - learn about the structure and style of writing music reviews. - practice the basics of writing song reviews and blurbs. - begin a portfolio of written work.
With 10 years of music journalism experience, and a lifelong passion for drumming, Mr. Taylor is excited to share his expertise and love of music with his students.
No homework will be assigned. All writing will take place during class meetings.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Instructor will provide feedback. No formal assessment will be given.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
All music will be age-appropriate.
