This initial course will be a deep dive into early medieval music and the culture surrounding it. We will start with the first written music which appears in the medieval era within the catholic church, this course will not elaborate on any religious aspects, only the impact it had on music. This will entail discussing compositional techniques of the time, how they first established written music, prominent composers of the time, and what inspired the original music. This class with be structured as a lecture and discussion based course, I will use power-point, some music, and there will be a question answer session at the end. This is for students who wish to connect their history knowledge to music and expand their understanding of music.
