The course is an introduction to the scientific study of language, and covers basic concepts related to the structure of human language, properties of individual languages, and patterns that are common in many languages. This class is taught in English.
At the end of the course, students will be able to articulate and apply fundamental principles and concepts in theoretical linguistics. Students will also be able to analyze data sets, summarize patterns and apply linguistic rules.
Homework Offered
Weekly lectures are followed by weekly assignments that are due before the next lecture. Assignments are intended to take 1 to 1.5 hours to complete.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
