Description
Class Experience
Students will learn the inverted pyramid style, the main points of journalism ethics, and how to conduct interviews. By the end of this six-week class, students will be able to write short articles based on press releases and interviews.
I graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in Journalism & Promotional Communications. Additionally, I worked on the student newspaper throughout college and held an internship at a regional travel and arts magazine.
Homework will not be assigned for every week, but it will include some preparation for in-class activities and interviews of family members during the second half of the class. The amount of time needed for interview assignments conducted outside of class in the later weeks will be unique to each student based on their approach to the assignment.
Students should have materials to write with. All curriculum/informational material will be provided during the class in PDF format.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Each student will receive written feedback on assignments done in and out of the class meeting time.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
We will refer to the Student Press Law Center website and Society of Professional Journalists website through my shared screen during class time.
