Students will learn how to write using journalism best practices. This class will cover the inverted pyramid, journalism ethics, AP style basics, and interviewing skills through lectures and practice activities. Students will have opportunities to apply skills from lectures through a combination of in-class assignments and homework. Students will learn the inverted pyramid style, the main points of journalism ethics, and how to conduct interviews. By the end of this six-week class, students will be able to write short articles based on press releases and interviews.
I graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in Journalism & Promotional Communications. Additionally, I worked on the student newspaper throughout college and held an internship at a regional travel and arts magazine.
Homework Offered
Homework will not be assigned for every week, but it will include some preparation for in-class activities and interviews of family members during the second half of the class. The amount of time needed for interview assignments conducted outside of class in the later weeks will be unique to each student based on their approach to the assignment.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class

Students should have materials to write with. All curriculum/informational material will be provided during the class in PDF format.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
