45 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this one-time course, students will learn the power of “Yes, and…” and develop skills as improvisers. Through a series of improv games, students will practice thinking on their feet, working as a team, and creating a story together. In this 45-minute lesson, we will play: 1. “I am, I feel”. In this introductory exercise, students will introduce themselves to the class and share how they are feeling. The entire class will repeat this feeling. 2. “Yes, and…” story circle. In this exercise, students will build a story together by adopting the improv phrase, “yes, and…”. One student will start the story. The next student will add on to that story, beginning their addition with, “yes, and…”. The story will move from student to student until we reach a conclusion. 3. “Rant and Rave”. In this exercise, students will be assigned a topic to rant about. These topics are trivial in nature, and include things such as, “People breathing too loudly,”, “open-mouthed chewing,”, or “bugs”. In rotation, students will be asked to rant about their assigned topic, presenting new arguments throughout each rotation. 4. “Foreign Film Festival”. In this exercise, one student becomes an actor in a foreign film. Another student becomes the class translator. As our student actor portrays the film through actions and gibberish, our student translator shares the details of the film with the class. All students will be given a chance to participate in all activities throughout the class. Together we will practice our improvisation skills and have fun!
