This one time class will cover the central theme in Greek mythology of love. This is part of a series of five courses covering the five major themes within Greek mythology- war, love, heroes, the Underworld, and morality and fate. Sign up for just one, or take them all! No prior knowledge needed to take this class! I will be utilizing slides and discussion, as well as some dramatic story telling, to conduct the class. Students will also spend the class working on an artistic notes sheet to help reinforce concepts, so please arrive with paper and something to draw with (colored pencils, markers, etc.). My teaching style really focuses on a mixture of student discussion and me giving information! In this class we will look at what the Greeks believed about love, about the different deities associated with love, specifically focusing on Aphrodite and her origin. We will also be hearing the stories of Orpheus and Eurydice, Tithonus and Eos, and Odysseus and Penelope. The class will alternate between learning about the structure and background to myths, drawing notes, and hearing myths.
Learning Goals
Students will be familiar with the theme of Love in Greek Mythology, including key characters and myths.
