Students will learn a brief history of the street and graffiti art movements and key terms affiliated with them. Afterwards, students will be supported in developing a chosen word or name that has a particular personal meaning they wish to stylize and sketch with pencil. They will then be directed about background elements and encouraged to color or develop the piece as they see fit. By the end of the session they will have a better understanding of this type of expression, when it's considered art and not in society, and lessons of principles such as value and typography.

Intro to Graffiti Lettering
Students will be first introduced to the definition of graffiti style lettering and typography, then shown how to draw a 2D outline that will be turned into a 3D outline that can be colored in and add details such as outline, drop shadow, warm and color colors, and texture. The lesson will conclude with a full developed piece including a background. Learners can take this introductory knowledge and individualize the strategy or direction they take with it.
