In these 2 sessions we will learn basic principles in genetics, discuss examples of genetic diseases with different pattern of inheritance (dominant, recessive, x-linked) and also cancer development (which is usually not a genetic disease, but originated from mutations in genes). We will discuss research approaches for studying diseases (animal models, recombinant DNA approach) and stem cell research (example of dolly sheep) - importance and ethical questions. No previous knowledge required, I always make sure students understand, before we move on. The class is highly interactive and students are encouraged to participate in discussions.
