In this hands on class, learners will play with play dough, have fun while learning numbers and counting. We will learn the name for each number and how to count to that number while forming balls with play-dough and placing them on their working mats. Children will all get a chance to individually count a mat outloud to the class and tell what they see on their mat. All children will get a chance to share their creations, talk, laugh, build and have fun while learning their numbers. *first few numbers only* for a more complete class check out my multi day listing. WHY PLAY DOUGH?? Playing with play dough helps develop cognitive skills, social and emotional skills and even language and communication skills. Play dough also develops fine motor skills. The acts of squishing, rolling, flattening, etc.. help children develop muscles used in their hands for fine motor movements useful in the future, such as holding a pencil or using scissors. So even though they think they are playing and having fun.. they are learning and preparing for the future!! **No experience required**

Hi I’m Jennifer Burgard! I am a mother of 3; ages 20, 5 and 3 years old. I'm from Washington State. I'm so excited to meet all of you and welcome you to my classroom. I am a Certified Elementary Education teacher with a current and valid teaching certificate. I was a Special Education /Life Skills teacher for grades pre-k to 6th grade for 10 years. This included reading, writing, math, communication, social/emotional, daily life skills, etc. I have a BAE in Elementary Education with a Major in Reading and a Masters Degree in Special Education. I am very experienced with modifying and accommodating skills and curriculum to meet the students’ needs. I am also very good at motivating students to learn and getting them engaged. 1-1 and small group learning is my specialty.
I left the classroom in June 2019 and I now stay home and teach online and be MOM.
I have found I love being home with my children and being their very first teacher from a very young age as we learn through exploration and play. I believe children learn when they are having fun and are engaged. I do a lot with hands on toys, music, movement, play, etc. After being a special education teacher for 10 years I have found many creative ways to adapt learning to fit the learner and get them motivated.
I also enjoy hobbies such as crochet, scrapbooking, card making, etc. for over 18 years. I’m a teacher at heart and love to teach others to do what I love!
I can't wait to teach and have fun with your lovely learners; big or small!
