Class Experience

How do electronic devices work? What makes circuits function? In this class, students will explore the essential building blocks of electronics, learning how components like resistors, capacitors, and transistors help control electricity.

This class is designed to make electrical engineering concepts easy to understand, using real-world examples, hands-on visuals, and interactive discussions. Learners will see how these components appear in everyday technology and how they interact on circuit boards.

The class is structured with clear explanations, engaging slides, and demonstrations of real components. Students will get to ask questions, participate in discussions, and apply what they learn to practical examples. By the end, they’ll have a strong foundation in electronics, preparing them for more advanced STEM topics. No prior knowledge is required—just curiosity!

Learning Goals

Identify Common Electrical Components – Recognize resistors, capacitors, diodes, inductors, and transistors, understanding their functions in circuits.
Understand How Components Affect Electricity – Explain how components control voltage, current, and resistance in electronic circuits.

Parental Guidance
This class does not require special materials or hands-on activities, but students may benefit from supervision if they choose to explore real electronic components at home. No prior knowledge is required, and all concepts are taught in an accessible and beginner-friendly way.
Pre-Requisites
No prior experience is required for this class. However, students who have taken "Power Up! The Basics of Electricity & Circuits" may find it helpful, as it introduces foundational concepts like voltage, current, and resistance.
Supply List
No supplies are required for this class, but students may find the following helpful for note-taking and optional hands-on exploration:

✅ Notebook & pencil – For writing down key concepts and circuit symbols.
✅ Basic calculator – Useful for simple circuit calculations (optional).
✅ Multimeter (optional) – If learners want to explore measuring voltage, current, and resistance at home.
✅ Basic electronic components (optional for hands-on learners):

Resistors (various values)
Capacitors
LEDs (light-emitting diodes)
Small breadboard
Jumper wires
These materials are not required but can help reinforce learning through hands-on experimentation if desired.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
