This class is for kids with or without special needs to explore the drums together. We’ll cover topics including different sounds of the drum set, stick grip, tempo, counting, and how to play along with songs. You can join in at anytime with no knowledge or experience in music. Week of 4/15: How to hold drumsticks and how to play a basic rock beat. Week of 4/22: How to count different note types (whole, half, quarter, eighth, and sixteenth) and play them together as rhythms. Week of 4/29: How to practice different tempos and how to use one basic beat for different styles of music. Week of 5/6: How to practice a whole song using a beat and fills. I teach drums using demonstration, explanation, and visual aides. I will break down the ideas into small, easy parts to practice. I’m patient and encouraging with students, and love to share the fun of music. This class is interactive for kids. Some of my students play along with drums of their own. Others use a practice pad and drumsticks. Some just tap their hands and feet on the table, and some students participate in drumming by listening or watching.
