I earned my Masters of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing in 2018. As part of this degree, I taught an Intro to Creative Course at my university. The college-level course I taught was the inspiration for this class for middle schoolers. I have selected age-appropriate readings and reworked the writing prompts to make writing fun for preteens. This class is a little bit more intense than your average after school writing club; it's on par with an elective class your child might take at school. If your child's work needs to be graded or assessed in order to receive course credit for a charter school or homeschool curriculum, please send me a private message to discuss.
Students will need to write their poems and stories outside of class. The class receive their assignment every Thursday, and should come to class every Tuesday prepared to share what they have written. (So they have the weekend, plus Monday to write every week.)

The time commitment for homework is 20-40 mins of writing time per week, outside of class.
Please note that this class requires Microsoft Word or similar word processing software.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
If your child's work needs to be graded or assessed in order to receive course credit for a charter school or homeschool curriculum, please send me a private message to discuss. Otherwise, there will be no formal assessment of students.
1 hour 50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
