In this class, students will be learning beginning coding skills on the code.org website. Students will stack code blocks to make an Angry Bird character move through a maze. They will learn how to make their character move forward, backward, left, and right. They will learn some beginning coding vocabulary including the terms algorithm, sequencing, bug, and debugging. We will begin class by introducing ourselves, and sharing a fun fact. The students will watch a short introduction to code.org, and then participate in a teacher-led mini lesson. Students will then have time to work independently on the Angry Bird puzzles, with teacher support when needed. We will wrap up the class with students sharing what they learned, and an opportunity to ask any remaining questions. Students do not need to have any prior coding experience. They will need to have access to the code.org website while also participating in the class meeting. This can be done by using a separate device for code.org, or knowing how to switch between tabs on their web browser. A separate device is recommended so they are able to see both at once, but is not required. Students will need to create an account on code.org and know how to log in to the program before the start of class. The "Teacher's section code" will be sent to you after registration. I look forward to meeting you in class!
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to stack code blocks in a sequence to move a character through a maze. They will learn the coding terms: algorithm, sequencing, bug, and debugging.
