During this class, students will perform an easy and fun science experiment with regular household items to observe 3 states of matter. They will also observe a chemical reaction that uses a solid and liquid to create a gas. The students will go through the scientific method step by step and will fill out a lab sheet together as we all perform the experiment. We will begin the class with a science reader that introduces the properties of matter. Next, we will talk about the scientific method and why scientists use it. As we go through the steps of the scientific method, we will perform the experiment together and fill out a lab sheet together. No background knowledge is needed for this class and there will be no homework. This is a great and fun way to introduce your child to chemistry, reactions, matter, science experiments, and the scientific method!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and I taught public school for 10 years before staying home with my 3 children, whom I now homeschool. I also tutor other students for the national homeschooling program that my children belong to. Science is one of my favorite subjects to teach. One of my personal philosophies about how children learn is that if you can connect many subjects together in a fun and creative way, and include a hands-on activity, they learn more in-depth about a specific topic as well as enjoy the learning process. I have found that a great way to do this is through Language Arts. Using a great book as a springboard for learning across the subjects has been a very successful practice for myself and many others. And kids love it!
