Class Experience

In this upbeat and fun introductory guide to bringing stories and characters to life through voiceover, we will:

-Discuss microphone technique and sound booth etiquette, as well as key terminology.
-Practice vocal techniques to expand range, lung power and protect your instrument during long sessions.
-Learn voice modulations that can be used in combination with one another to create bold and interesting character voices, using audition sides from animated films and series from Disney, Nickelodeon and the Cartoon Network.

This class will begin with a brief lecture and presentation before launching into fun and fast-paced exercises that allow the whole class to participate. This introductory course is a great match for an inquisitive beginner voiceover actor with some theatre experience, but will also be engaging and useful for more experienced students who would like to expand their range.

Supply List

Intro to Animation Voiceover students will receive a print out with animation renderings, breakdowns and "sides" to bring to our session. Having a pencil handy is also recommended.

Professional biography: Sean Patrick's Broadway credits include the Tony-winning tuners Kinky Boots and La Cage Aux Folles. Off-Broadway, his work in Jerry Springer: The Opera (New Group) earned him a Lucille Lortel Nomination for Outstanding Featured Actor. Other Off-Broadway credits include Anna Nicole: The Opera (BAM), Volpone and The Tempest (Red Bull) and Wig Out! (Vineyard Theatre). National and International tours include Mary Poppins, Fiddler on the Roof, West Side Story, Fame: The Musical. Regionally, his work has garnered MAC, SALT and Carbonell nominations for Best Actor. On screen, he is best known for his turn as roller skating lackey Garv in 20th Century Fox’s The Sitter, opposite Oscar nominee Jonah Hill and Oscar winner Sam Rockwell. Other film credits include Netflix's Barack Obama biopic Barry, and the Academy Award nominated animated feature The Boxtrolls, for which he provided singing vocals for Oscar winner Sir Ben Kingsley. Television credits include Fosse/Verdon (FX), Nurse Jackie (Showtime), Donny! (USA), Gotham (Fox), Forever (ABC), Law & Order (NBC) and Mamma Dallas (pilot for HBO).
