Class Experience
This semester long course is based on the curriculum created by the AI Education Project. Learners will explore definitions of AI, ethics of AI, algorithmic bias, benefits and risks of AI, data privacy, AI models, critical perspectives with AI, and the impact of AI on the future. This course is follows a project based and culturally relevant teaching framework. There are 8 modules in this course with each module containing several lessons. Students will complete activities and discussions...
-Define AI and recognize there is no consensus on its definition -Define data and give examples of data in their everyday lives -Identify beneficial uses of AI -Identify the human motivation behind AI-powered solutions -Develop a problem statement that can be addressed using AI -Identify potential impacts of AI on employment and/or identity and articulate proposed solutions to these impacts -Identify algorithmic bias and articulate common anti-bias tactics -Critique the benefits and risks of a specific AI technology -Model the flow of data through components of an AI product, including algorithm, model, and prediction -Critically evaluate an AI application from a variety of perspectives
I have many years experience teaching Computer Science courses and hold a M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Computer Science Education.
Students will work on projects based on the topics in between classes. Student should expect to spend 1-2 hours each week on these projects.
No additional supplies will be necessary other than an internet connection
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Students will receive feedback on their projects during class from other students and instructor.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
We will use the third party tool Hugging Face that allows people to make AI applications. Learners will need to sign up for a free account on the site.
Students will utilize the curriculum found on aiedu.org created by the AI Education Project.
