This one-time introductory course to see my teaching style and cover some key middle school math concepts like integers, fractions, and misleading graphs. We will also have fun with critical thinking activities.

This class introduces key middle school math concepts, including integers, fractions, percentages, and identifying misleading graphs. It also encourages critical thinking through fun activities like evaluating math optical illusions. I’ll use an engaging mix of slides, real-world examples, and group discussions. Learners will interact through problem-solving challenges and open-ended questions designed to encourage participation and critical thinking. What topics will you cover? 1. Integers: Adding, subtracting, and understanding positive and negative numbers. 2. Fractions and Percentages: Converting between forms and solving real-world problems. 3. Misleading Graphs: Recognizing common tricks used in visual data representation. 4. Critical Thinking: Provoke inquire and discuss with math images such as "Which one doesn't belong." How is your class structured? 1. Introduction & Philosophy: I’ll start with fun optical illusions to explain my teaching philosophy and show how math connects to creative thinking. 2. Concept Exploration: We’ll dive into middle school math topics one at a time, using examples and activities. 3. Interactive Activities: Learners will solve problems, discuss ideas, and identify errors in graphs. 4. Wrap-Up: A quick recap and time for questions or reflections.

I am a certified teacher with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Physics and a Master’s degree in Sociology. I have been teaching math and engineering for over a decade across elementary, middle school, and high school levels. My passion for teaching math began in college, where I worked in the university’s "Math Tutoring Lab," helping freshmen and sophomores master algebra and calculus. Over the years, I’ve found teaching middle school students particularly rewarding and take pride in making math accessible, engaging, and enjoyable for all learners.
