Tchaikovsky's timeless music from The Nutcracker as well as our imagination will guide us on this trip into the Land of Sweets in this classical music appreciation class for young students.
Class Experience
US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 2
In this class we will "visit" the Land of Sweets while listening to the Act 2 of Tchaikovsky's ballet The Nutcracker. The class won't follow the story line of The Nutcracker. Instead, children will be led on a "tour" through Land of Sweets by Sugar Plum Fairy. Students will reenact parts of different characters they will encounter in the Land of Sweets and "help" one of them while playing listening games. Students will get familiarized with fragments of Tchaikovsky's ballet The Nutcracker. They will practice listening to short segments of classical music and expecting the "clues" from the music. Students will be encouraged to use their imagination and creative thinking while playing musical games and making crafts.

Materials for Craft: • ONE of the following containers: yogurt cup, plastic or paper cup, fruit cup, jelly cup, or apple sauce cup. • Paper towel or toilet paper tube • Tissue paper OR 2 napkins (colorful napkins preferred, but white is fine too!) • 2 Cotton balls • Play dough • Old pencil • Small stickers, colorful scraps of paper • Markers • Scissors • Scotch tape • Glue
For the craft portion of the class parental guidance is required for younger students (ages 4-5) for the use of scissors and other materials. Parental guidance is recommended for older students (ages 6-8).
