In our modern world, the Internet is both a wonderful asset that helps us share information and connect with others from all over the world and a possible source of danger, especially for children. The internet can be a risky place for our youth. Check out some of these facts about some of the top risks for kids on the internet: *Cyberbullying: More than 36% of kids age 12โ17 have been cyberbullied at some point in their life, and nearly 15% have bullied someone else online. *Online predators: Child victims can be as young as 1 or as old as 17. When it comes to online enticement, girls make up the majority (78%) of child victimsโwhile the majority (82%) of online predators are male. And 98% of online predators have never met their child targets in real life. (Facts come from Safewise.com) In this 3 day class, your learner will build a toolbox of ways to keep themselves safe while online. "Hi! My name is Mrs. Julie Herring. I am super excited to be teaching on Outschool! I currently teach 4th grade, and have taught 2nd, 5th and 6th grade, too. This is my 16th year teaching. Prior to this, I spent 20 years in private supplemental teaching and tutoring. My favorite subjects are reading and math. I believe that learning should be interactive and fun. Students will be given an opportunity to build both confidence and skills. My goal is to help all students reach their full potential. I look forward to being part of your student's academic journey.
One fun fact about me is that I know how to juggle. My students always are impressed and entertained by this in my classroom. This year, my husband and I are learning to play pickleball. Hiking and traveling are other hobbies we enjoy."

๐ฉโ๐ซElena Meneses AA Early Childhood Ed.; B.S.Ed
Hello Outschool parents. My name is Elena. I am so honored to be able to teach your children. Online teaching has become my passion and I can't wait to meet you. I am originally from Ecuador and I moved to the USA about 10 years ago with my 2 kids and my husband. I have a Bachelor's in Education and an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education. I've been a classroom teacher for over 22 years and I've been teaching online for 2 years now. I've taught over 3000 online students and 9000+ lessons. I enjoy learning from different cultures and sharing my culture with others. I've also had the opportunity to teach ELL students in classrooms and online and it always fascinates me the way children learn a second language so fast. When I was in the classroom I liked my lessons to be very interactive with a lot of movement and plenty of opportunities for students to communicate. This is the same approach I have when teaching online. I want the student to become part of the learning process and feel comfortable participating and asking questions.

My approach to teaching is grounded in empathy, patience, and a steadfast belief in the unique potential of every learner.
