In this one-time course, students will learn the basics of internet safety so they can keep safe while online. Additionally, students will learn about cyberbullying and what to do if they or their friends are being bullied.

Class Experience

Students will learn the basics of internet safety. Additionally, students will learn about cyberbullying and how to approach this situation if they or a friend are being cyberbullied. 

The class will be structured as follows:
1. Introduction
2. Overview of Internet Safety and The Importance of Internet Safety
3. Tips to Keep Students Safe Online (includes but not limited to password and personal information safety, talking to people online, private vs. public social media profiles, posting pictures, and computer/phone/tablet downloads).
4. Summary Video on Internet Safety
5. Cyberbullying - What is cyberbullying? What to do if you or a friend are being cyberbullied.
6. Summary Video on Cyberbullying 
7. Wrap-up and Questions

*Please note that we will discuss talking to strangers, "friending" others in online video games/social media/etc., and why we should stick to talking to only people we know in person. 

Students will interact with the teacher and classmates via slides, video clips, and discussion. 

No previous experience or knowledge is necessary for students to take this class.

Curriculum materials will be supplied by the teacher. Students to not need to purchase any materials for this course. 

** Students will require a few sheets of paper and a pencil (if they would like to use coloured pencils/markers/crayons they most definitely can).
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

I am offering this class as I have a Bachelor of Arts Honours Specialization in Kinesiology and am a Teacher Candidate in a Bachelor of Education program (teachables include Physical Education/Health and Science). I have taken multiple classes in child safety, those including internet safety and bullying. I have also kept my First Aid and CPR C up-to-date. I have past experiences teaching children about hazards, bullying, and how to keep safe. As well, I have past experience teaching youth how to use social emotional strategies when dealing with bullying and other stressors in their lives. Additionally, I am an athletic trainer for youth and competitive sports teams.
