includedClass Experience
US Grade 7 - 10
In this class, students will learn to analyze and understand international current events while exploring the deeper concepts of government, economics, culture, and the environment. Each week, we’ll cover key global stories, focusing on the causes and consequences of these events and what they reveal about how the world works. Students will also have the chance to bring news stories they find interesting, fostering a sense of ownership and curiosity about the topics we discuss. The class is structured to include a brief overview of the week’s key events, a guided exploration of the ideas behind the headlines, and a lively, student-led discussion. By analyzing real-world issues and sharing perspectives, students will develop critical thinking and a deeper understanding of global interconnections. My teaching style is conversational and encouraging, creating a supportive space for students to ask questions, share their ideas, and explore different viewpoints. Interaction is a key part of the experience—students will actively participate in discussions and collaborate with their peers in meaningful ways. Please note, if unsolicited or highly emotional expressions arise around sensitive topics, I will acknowledge the student’s feelings with empathy while guiding the discussion back to a constructive and balanced perspective. I will ensure that all viewpoints are treated with respect, redirect the conversation if needed, and use the moment as an opportunity to promote understanding and thoughtful dialogue.
Learning Goals
Develop Global Awareness: Students will gain a deeper understanding of international events and the interconnectedness of governments, economies, cultures, and environments across the world.
