In this semester long course, dancers will improve their Jazz technique and learn new choreography
Class experience
Dancers will experience a true jazz class adapted to an online format. While the class will only be one hour in length as it is difficult to safely execute large jumps and leaps in an online setting, students will complete a full warm-up complete with stretches, abdominal and arm exercises. This will be followed by standing center exercises, such as plies, tendus, and isolations. We will then practice progressions and technique safe for smaller spaces. Dancers will progress their jazz technique and ability to pick up choreography.
With over 30 years of dance experience, Ms. Anne brings a depth of knowledge of many different genres of dance. Ms. Anne performed professionally in a multi-disciplinary dance company. She has taught ballroom, tap, jazz, and theatre, in addition to classical and contemporary ballet. Her students have won awards with her choreography at many prestigious dance competitions, including Youth America Grand Prix. Some of Ms. Anne's graduate research interests included studying the development of artistry in dancers and using artistic talents to develop a business model.
Dancers should wear form-fitting clothing that does not restrict movement. Dancers should take class from an area that allows them to move safely without hindrance from the floor or furniture. Jazz shoes are recommended but not required. Dancers may also want to bring a water bottle to class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
While every reasonable effort will be made by the instructor to help dancers prevent injury, this is an online dance class and parents should be near their dancers for the duration of the lesson to ensure that their dancers are performing in a safe manner. Dancers should take class from an open space free of obstacles with a smooth floor.
