Class Experience
The intermediate level typing class builds upon what students have learned during the beginner level. They will use Typing.com, Google Docs, NearPod, Flipgrid and the Outschool classroom to participate in practice activities and fun games using all 26 letters of the alphabet, capitalization, and basic punctuation. We will also cover typing numbers and special characters during the last week of the course. Even though this is a flex class there will be lots of teacher/student and student/student interaction opportunities. Every week students will have practice activities to complete on typing.com as well as a group activity that they can work on at their own schedule. Some examples of group activities are virtual breakout rooms, "popcorn" typing challenges (think popcorn reading but with typing), and create your own tips and tricks videos. Optional live typing races and challenges will also be offered three times during the course. The more practice time students put in and the more activities they participate in the more virtual badges they will collect! As the facilitator of this course, I will be posting instructional videos, starting and responding to discussion topics and instructing the group activities every week. I am also available by email or Zoom to assist any student that is experiencing difficulties or just needs a bit more guidance and encouragement. Topic Schedule: Week 1: Practice typing common English words and words using the home row keys, top row keys, and bottom row keys. Week 2: Learn to type full sentences and paragraphs using capital letters and punctuation Week 3: Hone your paragraph typing skills and work on some speed and accuracy drills. Week 4: Learn to type numbers and symbols as well as putting everything together to type using the entire keyboard.
Learning Goals
- Students will use the proper fingering technique to type on a computer keyboard.
- Students will increase their typing speed while maintaining or improving their overall accuracy
