What's included

5 live meetings
3 hrs 20 mins in-class hours
Homework
1-2 hours per week. Each class will have practice files available for the focus on that day’s class. Students should use these files to practice the skills that were demonstrated. They will be provided in multiple formats to ease the transition between various platforms. Students will also be working on a project that will demonstrate the skills they are learning in class. They may choose their own project, based on an area of interest, or can choose from a list of suggestions.
Assessment
Students will be completing a project that will use most, if not all, of the skills learned in this class. For those comfortable sharing in class, we will look at each other’s end projects to learn from each other’s creative thinking and problem solving. For those uncomfortable with group sharing, they can submit their project privately to myself for personalized feedback. Those that complete the project will receive a certificate of completion.

Class Experience

**This is an intermediate course, and assumes students have a basic knowledge of and comfortability with spreadsheets. If you student is a beginner, or needs a refresher, please first check out my other course “Spreadsheets For Beginners”.

For those that want to take spreadsheets to the next level, we will be diving into formulas and functions. Spreadsheets are powerful tools when we employ more than the simple functions and formulas (ie. sum, product, etc.).

Students will have a project to design and apply the concepts taught.

The general schedule will be:

Day 1
-Review of the basics
-Math functions (sum, product, quotient, round, average, and count)
-Combining math functions for complex computations
-Converting from one measure to another

Day 2
-Ranking values- finding the smallest, largest, and values in between
-Dates and times - finding the various parts and using in calculations
-Using dates and times in formulas

Day 3
-Logic formulas- using the IF function and it’s related functions
-Nested IF formulas
-Conditional formatting

Day 4
-Linking data
-Looking up data (various methods)

Day 5
-Creative solutions
-Project presentations (See Assessment, for more information.)

**I will cover how to do the above tasks in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, and Apple Numbers. Depending on the makeup of the class, I will focus of the software(s) that the students are using.
Learning Goals
Students will strengthen their proficiency with spreadsheets by gaining a greater comprehension of functions and formulas in spreadsheets.
