Diego Rivera was a prominent Mexican painter who was married to Frieda Kahlo. The children's biography book "Diego" written by Jeanette Winters follows his story from childhood in a way that makes Rivera's story accesible to young learners in an engaging way. This course is intended for emergent bilinguals who have learned the basics and are ready to extend with their Spanish skills. The book "Diego" is bilingual, but I will only read the English part when I find necessary. My hopes for this course are to pause throughout the story for conversation - thus helping the student with their conversational Spanish. Throughout the lesson I will encourage the child to speak at the level they feel comfortable while kindly correcting grammar or pronunciation them when necessary. Recommended Student Level: Motivated and interested in Spanish, student should have some background knowledge on the language. Ideally the student is developing Spanish reading skills and can respond to questions using simple full sentences or can form phrases and asks for help to complete the sentence in Spanish. Student should expect 80-95% of the teacher output to be Spanish. Day one: 2 mins - Introductions: ¿Cómo te llamas? ¿Cuantos años tienes? 5 mins - Warm up: Background info about Diego Rivera & Frida Kahlo 15 mins - Story time: Read half the book and pause for conversation Day two: 5 mins - Warm up: Review background info and day one 10 mins - Story time: Read the rest of the book and pause for conversation 5 mins - Show some of Diego Rivera's work

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Daniela or Ms. Daniela. I am overjoyed that I am able to begin my teaching journey on Outschool! I have experience teaching and tutoring children aged 3-11 years old in public schools and online. I love teaching online because it offers the opportunity to individualize curriculum based on student needs and interests while challenging me to be creative with my lesson planning. I obtained a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education and also studied linguistics, Spanish, and child psychology while in university. Spanish was my first language and what I grew up speaking at home, so I'm happy to share that skill with young learners. I love to incorporate singing, movement, and fun visuals in my language classes to make learning fun for everyone. I look forward to guiding your child to feeling more confident in their Spanish skills.
Con cariño,
Ms. Daniela :)
