What's included

Homework
1 hour per week. Each week, learners are encouraged to complete the following assignments to receive the maximum out of this class, retain the material, and have fun: - Read the week's story and sharing a recording of them doing so, - Participate in the weekly game, - Complete the worksheets practicing that week's phrases and vocabulary, and - Review with the Kahoot quiz on that lesson.

Class Experience

Stories, laughter, and games make compelling forces in language-learning! In this course, those who have already learned basics in Spanish challenge themselves by working toward complete sentences and back-and-forth dialogue, while still reviewing or filling in gaps through our weekly topics tackled through games and stories. The pre-recorded lessons are fully in Spanish, but I work to keep the language simple and ask that you please reach out where something isn't clear to you. In the classroom page, I provide written instruction in English about what to do for the week. I will also encourage learners to use as much Spanish as possible and complete sentences for maximum practice in their submitted video and/or audio work.

Though this flex version of the course includes no live class time, please see below the various ways we will interact over the course of this learning experience:

In the pre-recorded lesson I:
1 - Present the lesson's key phrases through question and answer.
2 - Guide learners through the book that accompanies this week's lesson.
3 - Model one or more games to use to practice the lesson.
4 - Wrap up with a verbal quiz on the key phrases.

~Interaction by sharing weekly readings~
Each week features a simple beginning Spanish reader created by the teacher that practices that week's phrases and vocabulary. Each Monday, I share a video of myself reading the story, I provide printable versions of the stories for the learners to practice. Learners share recordings of themselves reading these books in video or audio format. I provide weekly video individual feedback on learners' videos.

~Interaction through asynchronous games~
Each Monday, I will also present a game to practice that week's focus in which learners can participate asynchronously with me and/or other learners. Week 1 is a guessing game based on one another's descriptions. Week 2 is charades, in which we each act something out in a quick recording and guess which phrase is being acted out by others. Week 3 is a guessing game in which we try to figure out one another's pretend country locations using cardinal direction questions. Week 4 is a guess-the-drawing game.

~Interaction through feedback on homework~
Each week with the instructional videos, I provide class notes, a printable version of the week's story, and multiple worksheets. The worksheets vary by week and include drawing, writing, fill-in-the-blank, true or false, and matching. Learners post their completed worksheets in the classroom, and I provide individual feedback.

Each week includes a Kahoot review quiz as well!

These will be our weekly focuses:
Week 1 - Sharing what sports we play, Book: "Mi deporte favorito" (by the instructor)
Week 2 - Telling what chores we do, Book: "¿Cómo ayudas en casa?" (by the instructor)
Week 3 - Telling where countries are using cardinal directions, Book: "¿Dónde está en el mapa?" (by the instructor)
Week 4 - Talking about what we do in different seasons, Book: "¿En qué estación estamos?" (by the instructor)
