4 in-class hoursClass Experience
In this one time class, students will use Simplicity pattern 1551 to make a Halloween costume or cosplay costume. Students can customize the look by choosing the fabric to fit their character. We will begin class by discussing how to read the pattern and challenges that we might encounter after we begin sewing. Next, we will cut the pattern for 1551 and sew, following each step together. I encourage students to ask questions throughout class. This is an intermediate class. Students should be able to use their sewing machine independently. This is not a good class for someone who has never sewn clothes before. All of the students will sew along with me and we will solve any problems they encounter together, helping students learn from each other as well as the teacher. I always make sure that we finish the project or make it to the last steps that they can finish independently if they are comfortable doing so. I will not leave them with an unfinished product. Time permitting, I will also teach them how to make a cape to go over the dress.
