Class structure will build on students' prior knowledge of the learning Norwegian language. If the student has learned some Norwegian during family interactions/travel, at Skogfjorden (MN) camp or in my Beginning Norwegian class, they should be able to complete intermediate class assignments. (Please review the Beginning Norwegian class description to decide whether or not to enroll the student in intermediate or beginning Norwegian). Students will interact with each other by asking questions in Norwegian. I will teach using slides, screen shares for grammar/vocab practice and some games. My teaching style differs based on what student's learn best from (visual, auditory or kinetic). Topics such as current events and typical cultural differences may also be covered via video/newspaper clips. Topics covered will include: Session 1: Review of beginning Norwegian basics: greetings, numbers, colors, weather, geography, prounouns, verbs and adjectives. Session 2: Clothes, modal auxillaires, pronunciation with emphasis on parts of the word. Session 3: Simple past tense, types of homes/apartments in Norway, prepositions. Session 4: Verbs for cleaning the house, freetime activities, common medical ailments. Session 5: The Norwegian heathcare system, conjunctions, body parts. Session 6: Verbs related to health and well-being, review of common occupations, labor laws in Norway. Session 7: Dipthongs and pronunciation with emphasis on parts of the word, Norway's national holiday. Session 8: Adverbs, dialogue practice, possessive pronouns. Session 9: Pronouns and adjectives, extended family vocabulary, kitchen utensils. Session 10: Word order, the Norwegian primary and secondary school system and school supplies, pronoun review.
