Intermediate Drawing Fundamentals for Young Artists (With Big Imaginations!)
Class experience
"I want to draw cat robot riding a unicycle while eating a quesadilla!" Ok, great! Now where do we start? This class teaches the skills needed to put young artists imagined ideas to paper using basic shapes and lines. We start slow, step by step to lay down basic foundations of 2D drawing. This class is intended for young artists who love to draw and have enough experience with basic drawing skills to move up to the next level in their artistic journey. It is also for more serious artists...
Students will learn how to break down their art concepts into shapes and lines, learning perspective and proportions. Often, artists think too hard about the detail rather than distilling the art into its most simplistic form and then, build outward from there. It is a skill that is difficult to master but once it is there, they can draw anything. This foundation class will build art skills that can be applied to any medium of art. Through this class series, the focus is to build hand eye coordination, dexterity and the skill set needed for more complex detail. As student become familiar with breaking down their ideas into shapes and lines, we expand their understanding by learning about shape and form, light and shadow, perspective, color theory and composition.
A sketch book, drawing pencils and eraser are highly recommended. Loose paper will work fine but please ensure that the paper is filed neatly as it is beneficial for your artist to review their previous drawings and see how far they have come! From time to time, we shall work with colored pencils, water colors and other art supplies. If so, this shall be posted in class for the week ahead. Extra art supplies will always be optional and flexible given that I am aware not every household will have this on hand.
